My summer internship at a hospital

For the past 4 weeks, I have been doing an internship at Ygia Polyclinic Private Hospital in Cyprus, where I was shadowing the nursing staff and resident doctors. I have successfully completed 100 hours of clinical rotations in: Paediatric ward, Medical Oncology Centre, Surgical ward, Laboratory Department, Radiology Department, Intensive Treatment Unit, Casualty, and Endoscopy. Working in a hospital has been an amazing experience and I have learned a lot about how to properly communicate with patients in a medical environment.

I also had the opportunity to improve a few of my practical skills, such as measuring vital signs, giving intramuscular injections, implementing principles of infection control, safely handling and mobilising patients, performing urinalysis and urine culture, and monitoring blood glucose.

Overall, it was a valuable summer internship and I am thankful for this opportunity.
