Cryopreservation of brain cells

Today in the lab I spent a long time cryopreserving some brain cells for later use. It took me approximately 3 hours without breaks to prepare only 10 samples!

Interesting facts about the cryopreservation method

To prevent the cells from freezing to death during this process, a cryoprotectant called dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is added to the samples, which acts to reduce the formation of ice crystals that would otherwise kill the cells.
